The lake itself provides endless options for fun in and around the water. We were attracted to Deep Creek Lake in part because we love water sports. Nearly every type of boat from pontoon boat, bass boat, sailboat, personal watercraft (PWC) to kayak can be seen on Deep Creek Lake. Local marinas have boats available for rent. Prices vary according to the size of the boat. Sailing on the lake is exceptional with races held every weekend during the season. Fishing in the lake is very good. Thousand acres has hiking trails. There are two bikes available for your use.
Bring your boat and use it as the mode of travel. You can grocery shop, dine at several restaurants, visit night spots, see a movie, get fishing bait or boating supplies all from your boat!
Wisp, Maryland's only alpine ski resort, overlooks Deep Creek Lake and offers year-round resort and conference facilities, including an 18-hole championship golf course, as well as 22 trails (over 80 acres) for skiers of all abilities. The Adventure Sports Center Complex, located on Marsh Mountain (WISP) in McHenry, MD features a circulating whitewater course, for whitewater kayaking and rafting.
The region around the lake abounds with many other possibilities for family adventures such as hiking, camping, hunting, horse-back riding, rafting, golfing, as well as the many local fairs and festivals that you can find in the surrounding towns. There are also three nearby state parks, Deep Creek Lake State Park, Swallow Falls State Park and Herrington Manor State Park. |
